Code Problem Delays Railcom's Phone Services
China Railcom's nationwide official operation scheduled for Tuesday would be delayed as the company has not yet got a critical code for long distance calls from the Ministry of Information Industry (MII), a company spokesman said on Monday.
This new fixed-line telecom operator said earlier that its nationwide operation would be kicked off from the mid-July.
But the plan has to be changed, said the spokesman of China Railcom, as a network code, which is to identify calls from different operators, has not yet issued to China Railcom.
``We are fully prepared for the nationwide operation planned on July 10, but now have to wait longer,'' said the spokesman.
The company has been eager to immediately start operation after it got licence for the fixed-line telecom at the end of last year, it has prepared for the day for more than half year.
China Railcom has prepared abundant telephone numbers for the day, the spokesman said.
``Whenever we get the network code from the MII, we can immediately start operation,'' he said.
The company signed a contract with China Telecom on Friday for network interconnection and charge clearing.
China Railcom's charging standard of the fixed-line call would be 10 per cent lower than China Telecom, while the long distance call would be 20 per cent less.
The company is planning to provide detailed phone call list and will charge by seconds, not minutes, in the competition with China Telecom.
China Telecom, having over 160 million subscribers, does not provide phone call lists for customers. It charges by minutes for local call and every six seconds for the long distance call.
