I Have Great Faith in CPC Cause: EpsteinVeteran Jewish journalist and long- term friend of China Israel Epstein said Monday that as a witness of the ups and downs in China for decades, "I have great faith in the cause of the Communist Party of China (CPC)."Speaking at a forum on President Jiang Zemin's recent speech on Party building, Epstein said that he is "very impressed" with two figures in Jiang's speech, that is, the two 80-year periods. The first 80 years ranged from the beginning of the Opium War in 1840 to the founding of the CPC, and the second ranged from 1921 to the present. "In the first 80 years, the old China experienced poverty, constant wars and the loss of sovereignty. And in the second 80 years, the CPC led the Chinese people from one success to another, " he said. China has made great success in its revolutionary and construction causes, despite all the difficulties in the way of development, Epstein said. "The record of the CPC shows that we should have trust in the development of this Party and its leadership," he said. Born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1915, Epstein came to China with his parents at the age of two. In 1951, he joined the magazine "China Reconstructs" as the executive editor and later editor-in-chief of the magazine (renamed China Today in 1990). He became a Chinese citizen in 1957 and joined the CPC in 1964. The veteran writer who personally met with Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin said that without Mao, there would not have been the victory, at least such an early one, of the Chinese revolution; without Deng, China could not have achieved such rapid economic development; and Jiang, representing the new generation of leadership, is well aware of the development of science and technology in the world, and insists on promoting science and education in this country. He said China is making new victories when great changes are taking place in both the world and the country. Over a dozen veteran foreign experts attended the forum held by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs. |
