City Bans Sale of Cigarettes, Liquor to Teenagers

According to a regulation of the government of Shenyang City, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province, all marketers are banned from selling cigarettes and liquor to teenagers.

The regulation becomes effective this month.

Sales of foodstuff, toys and utensils, which are harmful to children are also banned by the regulation, jointly issued by the city teenagers' protection committee, the city bureau for industry and commerce, the city education committee and the city cultural bureau.

At the same time, the regulation also bans the sale and lease of reading materials and audiovisual products with unhealthy content to teenagers.

Smoking is banned in primary and middle schools, kindergartens and recreation centers for youngsters, according to the regulation.

The regulation also calls on teachers, parents and guardians of the teenagers to make concerted efforts to ensure the healthy growth of children.
