Senior Leader Calls for More Anti-Corruption Progress

Senior Chinese leader Wei Jianxing Monday called on the discipline department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and supervision departments at all levels to study the speech made by CPC General Secretary Jiang Zemin on July 1 and work hard to build a clean government.

Wei, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said the important speech of Jiang marking the 80th anniversary of the Party's founding gives the answers to the questions of what sort of Party the CPC is going to become, and how to build the Party under the new historical conditions.

Jiang's speech is a new contribution to the Marxist theory of Party building and demonstrates the latest achievements in theoretical innovation by the Party's third generation leadership, Wei told members of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

Wei, also secretary of the commission, said the speech is of far-reaching importance in guiding the Party to improve its style of work and fight corruption.

He called on the Party to work harder to prevent and fight corruption through reforming existing systems, and win the trust of the people.
