Businessmen From China's Shandong Province, Thailand Discuss Cooperation

Leading businessmen from China's Shandong Province and Thailand explored ways to enhance economic and trade cooperation at a joint seminar Monday in Bangkok.

"Thailand is an important trade partner of Shandong in the Southeast Asia, and the increasing bilateral cooperation have long history and sound bases, " said Li Chunting, governor of the Shandong Province, who is the head of a visiting delegation of officials and entrepreneurs from the eastern coastal province of China.

"With Thailand's rich resources and booming third industry and Shandong's strong first and second industry, we can help each other and benefit each other through cooperation," he said.

About 200 government officials and leading businessmen from both Shandong Province and Thailand joined the discussion.

"China's imminent entry into the World Trade Organization will provide more opportunities for both Shandong and Thailand, as well as China as a whole and Thailand, in their economic development," said a senior official from the Thai Commerce Ministry.

Boonsong Srifuengfung, chairman of the Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, pointed out that Shandong Province has managed to realize a balanced development of industry and agriculture and successfully combined new technology into traditional sectors, which sets a good example for Thailand to learn.

"I hope through the meeting, businessmen from both sides can enhance mutual understanding and forge new cooperation, in order to achieve mutual development," he said.

At the one-day meeting, the Shandong delegation also made introductions to Thai participants about the current situation of the Thailand-Shandong trade relations and some 80 projects which it brings to Thailand for seeking local partners.

Businessmen from both sides signed agreements on four projects at the end of the meeting.
