Philippine Police Ready for Ex-President's Arraignment
Philippine National Police (PNP) is on top of the security preparations for Tuesday's arraignment of ousted leader Joseph Estrada on plunder charges before the anti-graft court in Manila.
The Philippine Star online news Monday quoted PNP chief Leandro Mendoza as saying that the elaborated security preparations was aimed at "preempting a bit of opportunity for bad elements to take advantage of the absence of policemen in certain area in Metro Manila."
About 2,500 police personnel will be deployed within the premises of the anti-graft court and the Veteran's Medical Memorial Center (VMMC) where Estrada is currently under detention in.
Traffic policemen will also be placed on the way from the VMMC to the anti-graft court.
Estrada will be arraigned Tuesday against charges that he plundered some 590 million pesos (11.13 million dollars) in tobacco excise taxes and illegal gambling money in his 31 months in office until January.
