Law Professionals to Sit Qualifier Exam in China

From next year China will introduce a unified judicial examination system in which judge, prosecutor and lawyer on probation will sit same qualification exam, according to Beijing Youth Daily.

The amendments of "Law of Judges" and "Law of Prosecutors", recently approved at the 22nd session of the Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress, for the first time provides clearly the institution of a unified judicial exam system.

Lang Sheng, a law expert in NPC Standing Committee, says the new system would help to guarantee high-quality professionals in judicial departments and lawyer group, better their work quality and promote flow of law personnel.

Ding Xiangshun, Doctor of Law from Renmin University, says setting up of the system is necessary and practical, according to Legal Daily reports. Ding explains that there must be an independent, unified examination system to pick out a few talents so as to guarantee judicial justice.

Ding also says although judicial justice can not be guaranteed alone by exam system, any judicial changes come from staff changes and the exam can solve the problem of staff entrance, therefore should be regarded as a breaking point for the nation's judicial reforms.
