Beijing to Show Strength and Confidence to the World

Beijing is to show their strength and confidence to host the 2008 Olympic Games, said Beijing Mayor and the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bidding Committee (BOBICO) president Liu Qi in Beijing on Saturday.

Liu headed the BOBICO delegation, consisting of bid officials, sports officials and reporters, for Moscow to attend the 112th Session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), during which the delegation will make the final presentation as the 2008 Olympics candidate.

"We will try our best to show the world Chinese people's longing and pursuance for the Olympics as well as our strength and confidence to host the 2008 Olympic Games," said Liu minutes before boarding.

Beijing, Paris, Toronto, Osaka and Istanbul have been shortlisted for the 2008 Olympic candidates and the IOC will make its final decision on July 13 in Moscow.

Jia Qinglin, secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), wished the delegation good luck and saw them off.

"We are looking forward to your good news here in Beijing," he said.
