US to Release 20 Million Dollars for Fuel Deliveries to DPRKUS President George W. Bush has approved the release of 20 million US dollars for delivering fuel to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), according to a memo released by the White House Thursday. The decision is part of a 1994 agreement in which the United States has promised to provide 500,000 metric tons of fuel each year to the DPRK during the transition to build two light-water reactors in the country. The DPRK has recently criticized the United States for not fulfilling its obligations in the agreement to build the reactors and demanded compensations from the U.S. side for the losses which the DPRK has suffered from the delay in construction. |
