China Outscored by United States in Women's Junior Basketball

The United States kept its winning streak intact by beating China 97-51 at the USA Basketball Junior International Invitational Friday afternoon in Washington.

By winning three games in a row, the hosts will play Brazil for the gold medal of the four-national tournament with Japan and China clashing for the bronze medal on Sunday.

Nicole Powell had 17 points and nine rebounds to lead the U.S. squad, while Alana Beard, who led the hosts with 20 points in each of its earlier victories, had 16 points against China which lost three games in the round-robin tournament.

Brazil beat Japan 78-65 Friday for two wins against one loss and claimed the other final spot after the preliminaries.

China was outscored by the United States from the very beginning as Beard's layup started a 15-2 run over the final 2:48 of the first quarter that gave the U.S. team a 26-8 lead.

The United States extended the lead to 51-23 at halftime and went on to finish with a 55-29 rebound advantage.
