HK Introduces New Tool Measuring Drug Treatment Outcome

A new assessment tool on the outcome of drug treatment programs in Hong Kong was introduced to drug treatment and rehabilitation agencies, the Prince of Wales Hospital announced Saturday.

The Chinese addiction treatment outcome measure aims to develop user-friendly data entry and analysis software for local treatment and rehabilitation agencies to measure their services.

"The research will be useful in assisting the government departments and treatment agencies to evaluate the effectiveness and outcomes of different programs," Dominic Lee, head of the research team, said at a seminar held at the Prince of Wales Hospital.

Pilot tests of the measures were done in four treatment agencies of different modalities. The project was funded by the Beat Drugs Fund at a grant in 2000, which was established by the government in March, 1996.
