Macao Has 17,400 Public Servants

China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) had a total of 17,412 public servants at the end of 2000, according to the latest official figures.

A survey by the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau shows that the figure increased by 173 from the end of 1999.

The Security Department took the lead to employ 6,383 public servants, while the Commission of Audit, only 34.

According to the survey, the average monthly income of the SAR' s public servants reached 14,278 patacas (1785 U.S. dollars) last year, up 2.16 percent from the previous year.
