Central China Province to Hold Trade Fair in Hong Kong

The 2001 Hunan (Hong Kong) Investment and Trade Fair will be held from July 10 to 13 here in a step to expand the link of the central province to the outside world.

He Tongxin, deputy governor of Hunan Province, said at a press conference here Friday that some 300 projects with a total investment of 7.36 billion U.S. dollars will be offered at the fair, among which, projects worth 5.15 billion U.S. dollars will be open for overseas investors.

He said Hunan Province has four advantages in terms of geographical location, natural resources, human resources and low cost, and the projects to be brought to Hong Kong covers fields of industrial production, energy, infrastructure and tourism.

Moreover, foreign trade agencies in Hunan will bring over 100 million U.S. dollars' worth import and export business during the fair, he said.

The fair marks an important step for Hunan to carry out the Tenth Five-Year Plan (2001-2005), and get prepared for China's expected accession to the WTO and speed up the opening-up drive, he said.

He said he believed the plan will offer broader room and more opportunities for overseas investors to expand business in his province.
