Chinese Exlibris and Cultural Relics on Show in LAThe National Museum of Modern Chinese Literature is holding an exhibition of exlibris and cultural relics in Monterey Park, Los Angeles, being the first overseas one after the museum was rebuilt.People attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 30 included Deng Ying, Chinese vice-general consul to LA, Chen Yongshan, consul of culture, Shu Yi, curator of the said museum and Yao Zhuzhu, adviser of the museum. Shu Yi says that Los Angeles has chosen as the first log because there are more Chinese scholars here as well as people interested in Chinese culture, according to China Press reports. Seven years ago famous writer Ba Jin suggested President Jiang to rebuild the 16-year-old museum. Consumed 170m yuan, the new museum covers 30,000 square meters and has a collection of 400,000 works, being the biggest literature museum in the world. Different from other literature museums named after famous writers, it is one of state level. New literature had been a driving force in China's modernization process with many classical works appeared in 100 years, Shu said. This time he brings 35 pieces of state treasures, including Wen Yiduo's manuscript of "Nine Songs" and other little gadgets as Lao She's seal paste. Exlibris by 50 contemporary famous painters were also brought to give as gifts to local university libraries. Two lectures will also be given by Shu during the exhibition, titled "current situation and prospects of Chinese modern literature" on July 5 and "folk culture of Beijing" on July 7.
