Typhoon Hits Macao

Typhoon Utor swept through Macao Friday, disrupting air, sea and land transport.

Eight flights to Taiwan, Bangkok, Shanghai and Guiyang were canceled, according to sources from the Macao International Airport.

Traffic was held up on Macao's two cross-strait bridges. Sea transport and helicopter service also stopped between Macao and Hong Kong.

In the meantime, schools were shut as flooding was seen in some streets. The special administrative region (SAR) government canceled all outdoor activities.

So far, no serious damages and casualties have been reported, the Information Bureau said Friday noon.

The Macao Observatory issued tropical cyclone warning Thursday, signaling that Utor was edging quite close to Macao at a speed of dozens of kilometers per hour.
