China Trade Expo Held in Tokyo

The 2001 China Trade Exposition which is sponsored by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) with the support of Japan External Trade Organization (JETO) and the Association for the Promotion of International Trade, Japan (APIT), was opened in Tokyo on July 4.

Present at the opening ceremony are Chen Jian, Chinese ambassador to Japan, leaders of the two Japanese organizations, government officials concerned and envoys of over 20 countries and regions to Japan.

Dai Kexiang, vice-president of CCPIT, said at the ceremony that this exposition, only five months after JETO held the international purchase expo of accessory parts & raw materials in Beijing, shows the wishes of the two countries' industrial and commercial circles to further develop Sino-Japanese trade. He hoped that this expo could enhance the bilateral understanding of trade and economy and promote its development.

An official from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs also addressed that Sino-Japanese economic relations on the basis of trade and investment has played a big role in maintaining and developing a good relationship between the two countries. While China is now at the threshold of WTO entry, believed that economic relations between China and Japan will see a prosperous development in a broader way.

This is a comprehensive exposition held in Tokyo after the first one since 1996. The expo, covering an exhibition space of 2,500 square meters gathers up 122 companies and factories for foreign trade from 15 Chinese provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. They are engaged in textile, garment, handcrafts of light industry, chemical industry, minerals, metallurgy, electronics, grain, edible oil and foodstuff as well as high-tech industry.

During the expo, investment-drawing conference of Henan Province, Hangzhou City and Chengdu City will be held to introduce environment, policies and projects for the investment. This expo is to be concluded on July 7.
