Prince Sirivudh Becomes Secretary-General of Cambodia's Funcinpec Party
Prince Norodom Sirivudh, Counselor to King Norodom Sihanouk, has been officially appointed Secretary-General of Funcinpec party, replacing Tol Lah, a Funcinpec meeting announced the decision Thursday afternoon.
Funcinpec President Prince Norodom Ranariddh has signed the appointment on June 30, said the meeting presided over by Ranariddh here at the headquarters of the party.
Sirivudh accepted the appointment and pledged to work whole- heartedly for the Funcinpec, stressing that the party should enhance its unity so as to make the it stronger.
Sirivudh was Funcinpec's secretary-general before 1996, when he was forced into exile in France after being convicted of plotting to assassinate the then second prime minister Hun Sen. He returned to Cambodia in January 1999 after being granted amnesty by King Norodom Sihanouk in a coalition government deal.
