Yunnan Provincial Government has decided to establish a special fund for developing high-tech industries and boosting high-tech exports in this southwest China province, sources said.

According to the decision, from now until 2005, the provincial government will allocate 30 million yuan annually for building export bases for high-tech products, developing high-tech products, implementing the strategy of boosting foreign trade through science and technology, fostering professionals and exploring the international market.

This year, the province will choose a group of 20 high-tech enterprises to carry out the designed programs.

To date, the province has 11 key laboratories and seven testing bases, and it has conducted more than 300 key research programs and recorded remarkable achievements, especially in biological techniques, medicine and new materials.
