China Sets Up 2nd Drug Rehabilitation Research Center

China has recently set up its second drug rehabilitation research center in Changsha, capital city of Hunan province, central China.

The first such center was based in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong province.

Dong Wenhua, vice-director of the Institute of Crime Prevention under the Ministry of Justice, said the center was created to study some new drug rehabilitation methods and the experience developed by the Changsha Xinkaipu Education- through-Labor School.

The school has since 1998 developed strategies in cooperation with research institutes to help drug addicts get rid of withdrawal symptoms within seven days after they stop taking drugs, said Dong.

Special training courses have also been offered by the school to improve the psychological behavior of the addicts.
