Hong Kong's Tom.com Mulls Buying China Travel Network Stake

Tom.com Ltd., a website operator controlled by tycoon Li Ka-shing, is considering acquiring a stake in China Travel Network Ltd., which provides web-based services on the mainland, it was reported Wednesday.

The possible acquisition of a stake in China Travel Network is expected to enhance the efficiency of Tom.com's existing travel-related business, the Oriental Daily News said citing market sources.

The report did not disclose details of the potential acquisition.

Tom.com and China Travel Network had jointly set up an online travel services joint venture last year offering travel-related content and services in China.

China Travel Network fired 50 workers last week in reorganising its businesses, the daily said.
