Leading IT, Electronics Companies Flock to HuizhouHuizhou city in south China's Guangdong province has become one of China's important production centers for electronics and information technology (IT) products with domestic and overseas investors flocking there.Sony, Samsung, LG, General Electric, Philips and China's leading computer maker Legend are some of the major investors in the city. With its electronics output totaling 42.9 billion yuan, ranking second in Guangdong and fifth in China, Huizhou produces about 30 percent of the world's laser diodes, one of the key components of video compact disk (VCD) and digital video disk (DVD) players, and about 30 percent of the world's laser diodes for computer CD-ROMs. Huizhou is also the world's largest production center for telephones and batteries and Asia's biggest producer of computer circuit boards. TCL, one of the major Chinese producers of televisions, telephones, computers and other electronic products, ranks third in China's top 100 manufacturer of electronics products. Last year, TCL became the only manufacturing enterprise in Guangdong with an annual sales volume exceeding 20 billion yuan. Legend has invested a total of 1.2 billion yuan in the city after it relocated its computer producing center to Huizhou in 1994. The center produces one million computers each year. To date, Huizhou has approved 13,000 foreign-invested projects, absorbing 8.3 billion U.S. dollars, including investment by 16 of the world's top 500 multinationals.
