Marseilles Port Seeks Further Cooperation with China

The port of Marseilles, France's largest port, is seeking to expand its cooperation with China, a port official said.

In his recent visit to this east China industrial powerhouse, Jacques Truau, head of the Marseilles Port Authority, described China as a country with a robust and booming economy.

He said Marseilles is making every effort to enhance trade relations with its Asian partners, China in particular. He foresees great potential for cooperation between Marseilles and China in the shipping sector, given the good infrastructure, services and preferential policies Marseilles can offer.

Statistics show that 10 percent of the containers handled by the port of Marseilles last year were from China. Of all the world 's carriers, COSCO (China Ocean Shipping Corporation) Container Lines and China Shipping Group call most frequently at Marseilles.

Shanghai and Marseilles, as sister cities and sister ports, have maintained good cooperation and exchanges in the fields of port construction and management.
