Wei extended a welcome to the CPV delegation, the first to China following the Ninth CPV Congress, and said that the two parties and the two countries cherished their long-lasting traditional friendship. In the past decade, bilateral traditional friendship and cooperation have been recovered and developed rapidly thanks to the concerted efforts of both sides, he said. Exchanges between the two countries are expanding and cooperation in various fields is fruitful, said Wei. He stressed that in the new century both China and Vietnam should keep their good tradition of having frequent high-level visits. According to Wei, the two nations should keep close contacts at all levels, expand the scale and width of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, promote exchanges of experiences in party building and national affairs, and strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs. China is willing to promote China-Vietnam friendly cooperation together with Vietnam so as to serve the interests of the two peoples and making new achievements for Asian and global peace, stability and the development of mankind. Wei spoke highly of the successful 9th CPV National Congress held in April 2001. "Through the congress, we saw more clearly the CPV's firm confidence in sticking to Marxist-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh Thought, the socialist road and reform and opening up, and we saw more clearly the bright prospects and wonderful future of the CPV and its people in building socialism," Wei said. Wei said that he was confident that, under the leadership of the CPV Central Committee, the whole party and people of Vietnam would surely realize the strategic goals set at the 9th CPV National Congress, to make Vietnam a strong, just and democratic socialist country. Wei asked Phan Dien to convey the sincere greetings of General Secretary Jiang Zemin and himself to CPV Central Committee General Secretary Nong Duc Manh and other Vietnamese party and state leaders. Dien said that he was pleased to visit China upon the 80th founding anniversary of the CPC. Under the leadership of the CPC, the Chinese people have made great achievements in their reform and opening-up drive, and socialist construction, leaving the delegation with a deep impression, he said. Dien said that Jiang's speech delivered at the celebration conference summarized the glorious history of the CPC, and blueprinted the prospects for the CPC's building and China's socialist construction. Dien said that the socialist drives of both countries would result in greater achievements. On bilateral relations, he said that the traditional friendship between the two parties and the two peoples is the common wealth of both China and Vietnam, and a guarantee to the continuous success of the socialist revolution and construction in the two countries. He highly praised the pacts signed by the two countries on the demarcation of the land border in 1999 and of the Beibu Bay waters in 2000. "The bilateral relations between the two parties and two nations thereafter entered a new stage," he said. Dien reaffirmed the CPV's willingness to make active efforts in consolidating and developing the China-Vietnam traditional friendship. |
