Tianjin Launches Sewage Treatment Projects

North China's port city of Tianjin has set aside 2.2 billion yuan (about 265 million US dollars) to launch three sewage treatment projects recently, which are capable of treating one million tons of sewage daily.

Tianjin, with an urban population of over ten million, which produces several million tons of sewage every day, is the main cause of environmental pollution in the Haihe River and Bohai Bay.

Since 2001, Tianjin has built up and enlarged the treatment scale of two sewage treatment plants and four rainfall pollution treatment plants, which have reduced pollution around Tianjin.

The investment of 2.2 billion yuan came from bank loans and overseas investors.
