British Deputy PM to Visit China for Global Climate Change IssueBritish Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott will come to China for an exchange of views on the issue of global climate change on July 5-8.Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said this at a regular press conference here Tuesday. The discussion will address in particular issues concerning the resumed Sixth Session of the Conference of the Parties (resumed COP6) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Zhang said. During his visit, Prescott will meet with Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji and officials from the State Development Planning Commission and the State Environmental Protection Administration, Zhang added. Regarding the issue of global climate change, China and Britain share the same view that this problem concerns the present and future development of the international community, Zhang pointed out. Both the UNFCCC and the Kyoto Protocol are the basis on which the international community deals with the global climate change issue, said Zhang, adding that China is willing to join efforts by the international community for the early enforcement of the Kyoto pact. |
