Central China Province Sees Foreign Trade Rise

Hunan Province in central China reported 1.098 billion US dollars worth of foreign trade in January-May this year, an increase of 13.9 percent from a year earlier, according to local customs sources.

In breakdown, exports made up 717 million U.S. dollars, up 11.7 percent; and imports were 381 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 18.3 percent.

Commodities exported by the province include fireworks, un- wrought manganese, garments, and electro-mechanical products. Collectively-owned and private companies, and overseas-funded ventures are growing into key exporters of the province, along with state-owned foreign trade companies.

The export by means of general trade rose by 14.7 percent year on year, and that through processing trade dropped by 8.3 percent.

Major products the province imported in the five months include automatic data processing equipment and components, integrated circuits, micro-electronic units, and automobile spare parts.
