More Illegal Weapons Destroyed in Cambodia

Sar Kheng, deputy prime minister and co-minister of Interior Ministry of Cambodia, presided over the ceremony of destruction of illegal weapons on Tuesday.

This is the third time that the Cambodian government burnt illegal weapons and unidentified explosives this year. Over 1,300 pieces of searched weapons were destroyed in February and April this year in Pursat and Kompong Chhnang provinces.

At the ceremony held Tuesday in Kratie, about 200 kilometers northeast of Phnom Penh, military police burnt a total of 5,124 pieces of various weapons and explosives, mainly searched in Kratie and Mondulkiri provinces, northeastern Cambodia.

Sar Kheng stressed at the ceremony that destruction of illegal weapons can help maintain peace, social security in Cambodia.

He said now that Cambodia has achieved full peace after years of civil war, the authorities would continue to search and capture illegal weapons in order to strengthen peace and develop national economy.
