The Chinese Central Government has decided to invest 31.2 billion yuan (about 3.76 billion US dollars) in 117 projects in the Tibet Autonomous Region over the coming five years, according to a national conference on Tibet.

The investment will go into agriculture, animal husbandry, infrastructure, science and technology, education and grassroots, administrations facilities and ecological environment protection.

In addition, other provinces and regions will donate 1.06 billion yuan to complete 70 projects in Tibet, up 82.8 percent compared with the previous five-year period.

The central government has so far given Tibet a total of 50 billion yuan in state subsidies.

Over the past five years, the region has received 8.02 billion yuan in economic assistance from the central government and other provinces and regions, involving 716 projects.

Thanks to this economic assistance, Tibet has recorded an annual economic growth rate of 10.7 percent over the past five years, higher than the nation's average, sources said.
