China to Auction Bridge's Naming Right

According to the transportation department of Henan Province, it will auction the naming right of an extra-large bridge spanning the Yellow River as part of the expressway from Xinxiang to Zhengzhou. So far, active responses have been received from over 50 famous MNCs in China and abroad.

This is the first time for China to auction the naming right of a large bridge.

Official with the Transportation Office of Henan Province told that construction of the bridge is to be launched within this year. An 8-lane bridge, 9,850 meters long, 42 meters wide, to be completed and put into use in 2004, it will become the "throat" of the national highway from Beijing to Shenzhen.

Among the 50 MNCs respondents giving their explicit intention to participate in the auction to be held in Hong Kong in coming August are included Disney, Coca-Cola of the US. The bridge seems to acquire a foreign name as things are anticipated.

Henan Province has also put out some other projects at a road capital-inviting conference held at the press time, like transferring the right to collect fees on some expressways or bridges, wooing investment for some road projects and auction of the rights of titles and advertising at large crossroads.

Report also has it that Henan will permit sole investment in expressway construction.
