China Economic and Social Council Founded in Beijing
The inaugural conference of China Economic and Social Council (CESC) and first meeting of the Council was held in the auditorium of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in Beijing on Monday.
Ye Xuanping, Chen Junsheng, Hu Qili and Chen Jinhua, vice-chairmen of the Ninth CPPCC National Committee, attended the conference.
The purpose of the CESC, a national social organization, is to give play to its research, consultation and service role and support the country's reform, opening and economic and social development. Internally, the Council devotes its efforts to uniting various economic and social circles to study and discuss the important issues concerning the national economy and society; externally, it exerts itself to promote the exchanges and cooperation between the "International Association of Economic & Social Council and Similar Institutions" and its member organizations and economic and social research institutions of other countries.
The "International Association of Economic & Social Council and Similar Institutions" ("International Association" for short) was formally founded at the Sixth Assembly of the "Economic & Social Council and Similar Institutions" in Mauritius in July 1999. The CPPCC National Committee, as a founding member, joined the Association and became a member of its first Management Committee, the leading organ of the Association.
The conference passed the Constitution and the list of the council members and elected Chen Jinhua as the chairman of the Association.
