Netherlands Donates 15 Million Dollars to Xinjiang
The Dutch government Monday donated 15 million US dollars to China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to provide solar power for 78,000 homes in the remote areas.
The signing ceremony for the donation was held here today, attended by Tomur Dawamat, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), Wang Lequan, secretary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee of the Communist Party of China, and others.
According to the agreement on the donation, Xinjiang will allocate another 10 million yuan for the so-called "China Brightness Program", which was jointly undertaken by Shell and Xinjiang SunOasis Co. Ltd., who are responsible for installing 78, 000 solar home systems for 300,000 herdsmen in Xinjiang in the next five years.
Currently there are about 300,000 households in the region living in oases and mountainous areas without access to electricity, and the solar home system will be of great help to them.
