Beijing to Rebuild 2nd Ring Road

Beijing is reportedly going to rebuild its Second Ring Road because of earth subsidence and chapped surface to some sections of the road and mounting traffic demand.

According to Beijing Youth Daily, Second Ring Road will be given a facelift with a new road surface, new branch roads, pavements and installments strapped with a long greenbelt

Since there was nothing to speak about expressways and integrated urban construction back to the early days of the Second Ring Road being built, it had been launched with a low capacity and built separately with the advance of city reconstruction and linked up with crossroads.

Though Beijing already has its Third and Fourth Ring Road and some other arteries put to traffic in Beijing, its Second Ring Road still takes a large proportion of urban traffic due to its location at the city center. These have resulted in earth subsidence and chapped road surface in some sections of the road without doubt. Since the Fourth Ring Road has been wholly open to traffic, it has been regarded the opportune time for Beijing to rebuild its Second Ring Road.

As learned, the reconstruction is also part of the project of city road network. The College Road (Xueyuanlu), Dewai Avenue, Xiwai Avenue, extended lines of Lotus Pool (Lianhuachi) to be completed in July will form initially a free-of-traffic-light expressway with the Second and Third Ring Road.
