Somali President on Relations with Foreign CountriesPresident of the transitional national government of Somalia Abdiqasin Salad Hassan has emphasized that "we are opposing to all kinds of interventions whether from the neighboring countries or even others and any other kind of violations in the internal matters of one country to the other".Speaking at the ceremony to mark Somalia's 41st anniversary of independence held in Mogadishu's main stadium on Sunday, Abdiqasin said that "we work on the good relations between our neighbors and self-respecting of each other". He said that "we also very much welcome the recent understanding between us and Ethiopia". "Our differences should be over and the two neighboring people should respect each other and maintain a real collaboration," he added. Speaking on the same occasion, Prime Minister Ali Khalif Gallaydh stressed the importance of Somalia's unity, saying that " our unity and territorial integrity are sacred, whoever tries to undermine, whether local or foreigner, we will oppose them to the last of our efforts". He also vowed that his government will soon be able to control the capital. "Major operations will soon start immediately after today," he said, adding that "we will crush all the banditry in Mogadishu". Tens of thousands of people from all corners gathered in Mogadishu on Sunday to witness the parade attended by several thousand uniformed policemen and military. Also, several thousands of students in their school uniforms have marched before the 21 October Parade Ground here just the same as the government soldiers. These young men have come to the parade ground with their anti-AIDS slogans. All the 16 districts of Mogadishu have likewise presented their particular traditional dancers at the parade ground. |
