Chinese Vice-Premier on Tibet's DevelopmentChinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo has made an inspection tour of the Tibet Autonomous Region, urging related departments to hasten the region's economic development and continue to maintain social stability. From June 28 to 30, Wu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), attended the opening ceremony of the second phase of the Qinghai- Tibet Railway in this capital of the region, and visited the region's rural areas, factories and urban construction projects. He urged the officials working in Tibet to carefully carry out the principle and policies of the just-closed working forum on Tibet's development held by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. Wu said that it was his third time to visit Tibet, and he was really glad to see that great progress in economic development as well as in the people's life in Tibet. "This well indicates that the Party's policies for Tibet's development are correct and effective," he said. Now the conditions are ripe for Tibet to achieve a faster and better development, but, "we should also keep in mind that our task is still huge, and we have a long way to go." During his inspection tour, he also spoke highly of the Qinghai- Tibet Railway, asking the builders to guarantee the construction quality while protecting the local ecological conditions.
