Macao -- Bridge Between China, Outside World

The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will further play the role of a bridge between China' s inland and the Portuguese-speaking areas, Macao SAR Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah said Monday.

When meeting delegates attending the 17th conference of the Union of Portuguese-Speaking Cities, Ho said that the conference will push the development of Macao's tourism, culture and commerce.

Macao has long been a bridge between China's inland, especially the Pearl River Delta, and the outside world, he said.

Ho expressed the hope that the delegates will have a better understanding on Macao's role as a bridge when they visit the neighboring Guangdong Province after the conference.

The 17th Conference of the Union of Portuguese-Speaking Cities was attended by organizations, representatives and businessmen from 21 Portuguese-speaking cities worldwide.

The nonprofit union has now 15 members including Macao. It aims to strengthen the cooperation among the members and promote social development
