Large Gas Field Found Again in Tarim Basin

Following a proven reserve of 250.6bn cubic meters natural gas reported for Kela No2, prospecting team has found another large natural gas field in the Tarim Basin with an estimated reserve of over 150bn cubic meters.

In late June Tarim Oil Company conducted tests on Dina No 2 well in the north of the Basin, resulting in daily production of 2.18 million cubic meters of gas, and high-yield gas stream with 131 cubic meters of oil separated out through condensation, thus leading to the finding of the new gas field.

Primary exploration tells the gas field covers 77 square kilometers, with an estimated reserve of over 150bn cubic meters, being a large one by international standards.

The geological structure of Dina No 2 is quite sophisticated and workers conquered a series of technological difficulties to reach the gas stratum.

The newly founded gas field is located 90 kilometers south of Lunnan, the first station along trunk pipeline carrying gas from China's west to east. Now with the exploration work in full swing it is to able to submit the proven reserve report to the state by yearend, thereby developing another major gas source.
