Japanese PM Koizumi Arrives in Britain for Summit Talk

Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi arrived in London late Sunday for a meeting with his British counterpart Tony Blair.

He arrived at London's Heathrow airport from the United States, where he garnered firm support from President George W. Bush for his reform drive intended to revive Japan's moribund economy.

Koizumi and Blair are to have a working lunch Monday. The musical premier is also scheduled to visit Her Majesty's Theatre to see The Phamton of the Opera.

Koizumi is expected to exchange notes on reforms with Blair, who embarked on structural changes of the economy after becoming prime minister in 1997.

The meeting preceeds a summit of the Group of Eight (G8) leading industrialised nations in the Italian city of Genoa on July 20-22.

Koizumi, who took office in late April, made his debut on the international stage with this three-nation trip, which will also take him to France.
