CAAC to Purchase 400 More Planes

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) will purchase 400 planes in the coming five years.

A CAAC official said that by 2005, the annual passenger transport volume of CAAC will reach 100 million people, and its annual cargo carrying capacity will be 2.8 million tons.

Last year, CAAC transported 67.22 million passengers, and carried 1.97 million tons of cargo.

The passenger transport volume of CAAC is now the third-largest in the world.

By the end of 2000, CAAC had 257 airplanes of various types, and operated from 129 domestic airports. During the 2001-2005 period, CAAC will set up 43 more airports, with 23 in western part of the country.
