China Names New Deputy Chief Prosecutor

China's legislature, the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, appointed 44-year-old anti-corruption fighter, Qiu Xueqiang, to the position of deputy head of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPC) Saturday.

Qiu, with a master's degree in law, has been the director of the political department of the SPC prior to his promotion. He served as local prosecutor in Yushu Prefecture of Qinghai Province, then deputy head of the prefectural prosecution office, and later promoted to the SPC and given the job as director of disciplinary supervision department.

He was known for exposing the wrongdoings of a deputy governor of Qinghai Province who was later convicted for taking bribes. Later on, Qiu led his anti-corruption team to crack several of the most notorious corruption cases in China,and won much acclaim for his efforts.
