Europe's Most Wanted Terrorist Arrested in Spain
Pasquale Belsito, the far-right Italian terrorist most wanted in Europe for two decades, was arrested at midnight Friday in Madrid by the Spanish police in a joint operation with Italian police, police said Saturday.
According to the Spanish Interior Ministry, Belsito, alias "The Black Flower," was captured at the Moncloa bus station after tough resistance.
There were two international arrest warrants to extradite him for the murders of Italian prosecutor Antonio Amato and two law enforcement agents in Italy.
Italian authorities reported that he has been wanted for two other murders and he has been sentenced four life sentences, both in Italy and France.
Spanish authorities said the terrorist was finally caught thanks to the agreements signed by the Spanish and Italian police chiefs, Juan Cotino and Gianni de Gennaro, to create a joint investigation group over the case.
Belsito, who had been at large under forged documents, had been operating in France, England, the Netherlands, Lebanon, Croatia and many South American countries over the years prior to his arrest.
He is considered as an "extremely dangerous terrorist" belonging to the Italian far-right group Revolutionary Armed Nuclei (NAR), which has connections with the British extreme-right group Third Position International, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
