People's Daily Editorial Hails CPC Anniversary

Our Daily published an editorial Sunday to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

The editorial hails the party's glorious history of leading the Chinese revolution and socialistic modernization under the leadership of Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin.

Never in the history of China has there been a political party that has attracted so many advanced elements, sacrificed so much for the Chinese nation, kept such a close tie with the people and been quick to summarize its experiences and correct its mistakes, the editorial says.

The editorial hails Mao Zedong Thought and the Deng Xiaoping Theory as the CPC's two biggest theoretic achievements, saying that they are the precious spiritual treasure of the party and a banner to lead to more victories in the future.

The editorial calls the thinking of President Jiang Zemin on the CPC representing the advance of productive forces and Chinese culture and the fundamental interests of the people a guideline for the party to act in the 21st century.

The editorial expresses the optimism that with the party's leadership, China will be able to overcome any difficulties to attain the goals of socialistic modernization by the mid-21st century.
