China Donates Office Equipment for OAU SummitThe Chinese government Friday donated office equipment and a cheque of 500,000 US dollars to Zambia in a bid to help the cash-strapped country host the upcoming Organization of African Unity (OAU) summit, which will kick off here early next month. At the hand-over ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Peng Keyu said China's assistance to Zambia and the OAU summit is very limited. However, the ambassador said China is a developing country in the world with 1.3 billion people and is still not strong enough. "The Chinese government has been trying her best to render her assistance to Zambia and other African countries," Peng said. The donation of office equipment has been provided under a 5 million yuan (620,000 dollars) grant from the Chinese government for the provision of computers, printers, copy machines, fax machines and other equipment, he said. For his part, Zambian Vice President Enoch Kavindele commended the Chinese government for the generous assistance to Zambia, saying that Zambia is confident to hold the summit with the help of China and other countries. |
