Beijing Striving for Best Ceremonies on 21st Universiade

In order to make the 21st Universiade the best one ever, give a full display of China undergoing reform and opening up, demonstrate the new look of Beijing and the mental outlook and graceful bearing of modern Chinese youth, and embody the Universiade's main theme of "Youth, Friendship, and Peace", the Organizing Committee of the 21st Universiade will make opening and closing ceremonies contain Chinese characteristics and reach the international standard, and strive to have everything done to the best level.

According to the introduction given by the Organizing Committee at a news briefing on June 28, the Universiade to be held on the evening of August 22 will see a grand, enthusiastic and exciting opening ceremony. Bearing the title of "Hello, 21", the opening ceremony, scheduled at 8 pm, will consist of grandiose and energetic theatrical performances, displaying the national spirit, the sense of the times, artistry and the youthful vigor of university students. The performances will contain three parts, namely, "birth--a nation of dragon", "glory--ancient Chinese nation" and "vigor--a brand new Beijing". Now the rehearsal is in full swing.

The closing ceremony, to be held at 7:30 pm, on September 1 at Beijing Workers' Stadium, will also consist of three parts: "now is the happy hour", "we love sports" and "youth in a new century".

In a word, both ceremonies will be a splendid gathering of youthfulness and life, sports and art, peace and friendship.
