Beijing Striving for Best Ceremonies on 21st Universiade

Lammergeiers Found in North Tibet

North Tibet Plateau Depopulated Zone Scientific Expedition Thursday discovered lammergeiers (Gypaetus barbatus), a kind of rare birds only living on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, in Nam Co, north Tibet. The lammergeier, also named as "sweeper", feeds merely on animal cadavers. There are only about one thousand lammergeiers in China. It is one of the rare bird species on the brink of extinction. Tibetan Pharmacology/Medicine Booming

Tibetan pharmacology and medicine, one of the Chinese heritages rooting in the snowy plateau for a thousand of years, has shown unprecedented vitality under the concern of the Communist Party and the Central Government since peaceful liberation of Tibet. Since most of the materials are locally drawn at an altitude of over 3000 meters above sea level, pure and processed by unique means, free of pollution, Tibetan medicines give a strong medical effect. Picture shows some patent medicines produced by Tibetan pharmaceutical factories.
