FMM Theme: Growth with Restructuring, Stability, Equity

The eighth APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) Finance Ministers Meeting (FMM) will be held in September under the theme of "Growth with Restructuring, Stability and Equity," Chinese Deputy Finance Minister Jin Liqun said Friday.

Three agenda have been listed under the theme, Jin said in an interview with Xinhua on the sidelines of the 12th APEC FMM technical working group meeting, which closed here Friday afternoon.

The agenda are: strengthening dialogue on macro-economic policies to promote economic and financial stability and sustainable economic growth; deepening structural adjustment and reform, and establishing a sound financial system to build a solid foundation for sustainable economic growth; and promoting economic growth on a fair and equitable basis in order to minimize adverse impacts and maximize broad-based benefits in the process of globalization and to ensure that the majority of people benefit from globalization.

The theme and the three agenda, already agreed upon by all APEC economies, reflect the region's concept of meeting the challenges, strengthening regional cooperation and maintaining sustained economic growth, as well as global and regional economic changes and issues concerning all APEC economies, Jin said.

He said the schedule for this FMM, slated for September 8-9 in Suzhou City of Jiangsu Province, is different from the previous ones, and China will be the first member economy to host the meeting prior to the APEC informal leadership meeting scheduled for this October in Shanghai.

This year's schedule will enable financial officials from all APEC economies to carry out extensive discussions so as to work out more proposals for their leaders, said Jin.
