FIVB World Grand Prix Volleyball to Start in HK

The One-million-U.S.-dollar world women's volleyball tournament will kick off in Hong Kong and Bangkok in early August, the Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China told a press conference Thursday in Hong Kong.

The 2001 Federation Internationale De Volleyball (FIVB) World Grand Prix features eight teams from China, Brazil, Cuba, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Germany and Russia. The finals will be staged in Macao on August 24-26.

The eight teams will be divided into two groups with China, Brazil, Cuba and Japan getting started in Hong Kong on August 3-5, while the other four teams competing in Bangkok, Thailand.

After the Hong Kong and Bangkok tournaments, the eight teams will move to Taipei, and another city (to be determined) for the week two of the Prix on August 10-12. The last semi-final-week competitions will be held in Harbin, China and Tokyo, Japan on August 17-19.

During the last eight FIVB World Grand Prix, Brazil tripled the titles, followed by Cuba and Russia both with two wins, and the United States with one.
