Direct Flight Services Between HK and Lhasa to Be Opened in July

China Southwest Airlines will open straight flight service from Hong Kong to Lhasa on July 21.

The Airlines will use Boeing 757-200, which is specially re-equipped for highland flying, to carry out the flight mission from Hong Kong to Lhasa every Thursday and vice versa every Saturday.

After the opening of the direct flight, Hong Kong tourists will be able to make a choice of tour routes between Lhasa, Xigaze and Nyingchi, etc more freely and travel agencies in Tibet will be able to organize tourists from Tibet to HK more conveniently. And so the travel markets of both regions will become vigorous and brisk.

The opening of the straight flights between Hong Kong and Lhasa will shorten by a big margin the traveling time originally spent from Hong Kong to Chengdu on the first day, then from Chengdu to Tibet the next. A mere four-hour flight will take tourists to Lhasa on the same day departing from Hong Kong. The opening of the direct air-route will probably help Hong Kong travel agencies lower their quotations for Tibet tours.

Besides, with the opening of the direct air-service, the related department of Tibet Autonomous Region will also consider the direct visa application for Hong Kong tourists before their departure by simplifying the procedures concerned as expected by Hong Kong tourist circles. From now on tourists to Tibet via Hong Kong will no longer need to go through complicated procedures.
