Macao Chief Executive Satisfied with EU Visit

Chief Executive of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), Edmund Ho Hau Wah, said here Wednesday that his just-ended visit to the headquarters of the European Union in Brussels has achieved "ideal results".

The two sides has strengthened exchanges during his five-day visit, Ho told the press Wednesday night, adding that Macao hopes to enhance cooperation with the EU in economic, cultural and academic fields.

Ho said that high-level meetings will help the EU better understand the implementation of "One Country, Two Systems" in Macao and further promote the role of Macao as a bridge to Europe.

Some Belgian enterprises expressed their interest in investing in Macao and entering the Pearl River delta market via Macao. "The SAR government welcomes that, and is ready to offer help," he said.

The chief executive met with European Commission President Romano Prodi and other officials of the EU and Belgium and paid a courtesy call on Crown Prince Philip of Belgium.

This was Ho's first visit to the EU in his capacity of chief executive and also this year's most important visit.
