Chinese Vice-President Meets Norwegian FMHu told visiting Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Thorbjoern Jagland that Sino-Norwegian relations have developed smoothly, and the two countries have maintained close contact at the levels of governments, parliaments, political parties and non- governmental organizations since the two heads of state exchanged visits several years ago. China is pleased to see the fruitful bilateral cooperation with Norway in the fields of economics and trade, energy, environmental protection and education, and the regular consultations between the two countries in international affairs, Hu said. He said China is implementing the tenth five-year social and economic development plan and the strategy to develop its western region, and is preparing for entry into the World Trade Organization. The cooperation between the two countries is promising as China 's reform and opening-up policy has been further implemented, Hu said, believing that Sino-Norwegian relations will deepen with the joint efforts of the two countries. Jagland said that Sino-Norwegian relations are sound with the frequent contacts between the leaders of the two countries. The bilateral trade has been increasing, and the two countries have cooperated well within the Security Council of the United Nations. Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg has decided to visit China next year, Jagland said. He said that the world is facing new threats, and in order to establish a global balance, Norway has attached importance to China's constructive role in international politics, and is ready to expand cooperation with China in all fields.
