China's 2000 Central Budget Deficit Less Than Expected
China's central budget deficit for fiscal year 2000 stood at 259.687 billion yuan by final accounts, which was 20.159 billion yuan less than what was reported to the country's legislature earlier this year, Finance Minister Xiang Huaicheng said Thursday.
Reporting the final accounts to the on-going 22nd session of the NPC Standing Committee, Xiang said the country's central fiscal revenue for 2000 was 758.829 billion yuan and expenditure was 1,018.516 billion yuan.
Compared with what he reported to the Fourth Session of the NPC in March, the fiscal revenue and expenditure increased by 396 million yuan and 262 million yuan, respectively, with the deficit dropping by 134 million yuan, the minister said.
Xiang attributed the increased fiscal revenue to the nationwide efforts to implement the government's measures to boost economic growth, improve financial and economic order and strengthen the management of taxation in the past year.
